When I see this picture I can’t help but wonder how driving behavior would be altered. Hourglass or not, people are still going to run red lights, so I don’t see much change on that end. But the red light hourglass would be interesting. Would this innovation help to prevent the average oblivious cell-phone addict from holding up traffic when the light turns green, thereby making commuting all the more pleasant and efficient for everyone? Or would we see an increase in road rage (preemptive honks, tailgating, and aggressive driving) as angry drivers grow even more impatient with Sunday drivers.
