The Civil Wars (Johnny Depp?).

Good Old War - That’s Some Dream.

I miss you all and wish you well.

Remember how I raved about Lissie in an earlier post? She is quickly becoming one of my favorite singer-songwriters. Every one of her performances is so moving!! As you will see in this video, she is arguably at her best when she is alone with her guitar and her voice. Thanks Sommer for finding this one!! So good!

I want to cover this song with Sommer. It may or may not be a parody. We shall see.

Disclaimer: Don’t watch unless you want your brain infected by catchy rhythms and lyrics that spread like the black plague.

This song will not leave my brain alone.

For those who haven’t figured it out, I have a music crush on Lissie. Here’s another live performance for your viewing pleasure, of a song called “Wedding Bells”. Definitely check out my post on her show at the Grenada theater if you are interested!

I attended my first show in Dallas on Saturday night. The Morning Benders decided to kick off their final “Big Echo” tour at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff, and I was happy to be in attendance. Despite a few sound issues, the venue offered great atmosphere. The first two bands didn’t do too much for me, but that didn’t matter after the Morning Benders took the stage and got their set rolling.

The Morning Benders are one of those unique bands that sound much better live than in the recording studio. The lead singer looks like he is 16 years old (seriously), but he had the maturity of a veteran rock star. He managed his band perfectly, sang and played his instrument with confidence, and appeared totally relaxed when mingling with the crowd in between songs. There could not have been more than 100-150 people in attendance, but that didn’t stop him from getting us all on our feet and dancing below the stage to one of the many catchy riffs and hooks provided. Finally, the show was only 12 bucks. This is an up-and-coming band if I have ever seen one. Do yourself a favor and see them if they are coming to a town near you this fall! Here is a list of tour dates.

Also, check out this video to see a nice glimpse of the band performing their hit song live with a bunch of their friends.

  • Rap about the infamous Koch Brothers. Read about them here.

  • Written and mixed by Galen Smith. Performed by Galen Smith and Robby Nelson. All the weak beats are from GarageBand (so cut me some slack).

Bowl of Oranges (acoustic cover) - Bright Eyes.

Swell Season - Low Rising.

MGMT - Kids (Acoustic Cover)

Incredibly creative song on an important topic.

Knock it out of the park.
