Is this YouTube video Oscar-worthy? Roger Ebert thinks so.
200 countries. 200 years. 4 minutes. An insightful look at global convergence in terms of health and wealth (and one more reason why I love the BBC). Thank you Sommer for showing me this one!
A beautiful look back at 2010.
Good Old War - That’s Some Dream.
Awesome trailer. This movie better be good!
I miss you all and wish you well.
There is one clear benefit of graduating from the academic bubble to the daily grind: I can laugh at this video. Thanks to my father for sending this one my way! The fact that he still finds this humorous is a clear indication that the scars of graduate school never quite heal.
I think the message of the entire “Story of Stuff” series is incredibly important. Far too many people are ignorant of product life cycles, and the harm that is caused by (excessive) consumption. I think this video hits more home than ever, since most Americans have had to deal with the frustration of dvd players, televisions, cell phones, and computers that are both nonfunctional and obsolete two years after purchase. Unfortunately, such inconvenience pales in comparison to the harmful effects of mining, assembly, and waste management that mostly occurs abroad in poorer countries. But if it helps to create awareness that the electronics industry is harmful and inefficient, then that is fine by me.
Remember how I raved about Lissie in an earlier post? She is quickly becoming one of my favorite singer-songwriters. Every one of her performances is so moving!! As you will see in this video, she is arguably at her best when she is alone with her guitar and her voice. Thanks Sommer for finding this one!! So good!
I want to cover this song with Sommer. It may or may not be a parody. We shall see.
Disclaimer: Don’t watch unless you want your brain infected by catchy rhythms and lyrics that spread like the black plague.
Women should be at the center of any serious campaign to reduce poverty. The evidence has pointed to this fact for a long time now. So does common sense. The Girl Effect videos do an amazing job of conveying this simple and powerful message. Check out their videos.
At Milo Butterfingers in Dallas, TX, watching the Texas Rangers defeat the defending World Series Champion New York Yankees in game 6 of the 2010 ALCS. The Rangers are off to their first World Series in franchise history!!!!
This song will not leave my brain alone.
